Mohamed M. continues with his propaganda in Germany instead of Austria

It’s likely that officials from the Austrian Ministry of Interior are everything but sad due to the departure of a particular person of interest: Mohamed M., who was convicted for membership in a terrorist organization to a four years prison term and released in September 2011, left Vienna. The 26-year-old Austrian with Egyptian roots left Austria for Berlin to be a founding member of  the oranisation Millatu Ibrahim, introducing a new website on November 7th.

He first appeared in the german capital at the end of October. On October 26th, he attracted attention from German media after he together with a handful of Islamists picked up Hani N. and Samir M. , two terror-suspects, as they were released from custody. In their apartment investigators  found chemicals which are suitable for manufacturing explosives.

Since that meeting M. stroke roots in Berlin. But the Islamist isn’t just interested in activities in the german capital. According to sources M. received an invitation to a radical mosque in Solingen in North Rhine-Westphalia. According to information Kurier received from sources, M. confirmed first contacts to Solingen: “Inshallah, I will visit the brothers in Solingen”, M. reportedly said to a group of followers. The german city is in the media spotlight regulary due to activities of radical Islamists there. One mosque in particular enjoys special attention from german prosecutors. Two men from Solingen are currently in custody in London due to terrorism related charges. The Interior Ministry of North Rhine-Westphalia estimates the number of Salafists in the state to around 500, 20 to 30 of them are members of jihadi groups.

Disputes

His departure to Germany might be a pleasant change for  Mohamed M. The 26-year-old is not undisputed in Austria- even amongst other Islamists. According to information KURIER received from sources his audience waned rapidly during his last lectures. According to unconfirmed information, there have been subsantial disagreements between M. and other Islamists in Vienna.

“Jihad-Rapper”

The activities in Berlin show a trend that worries experts: German and Austrian Jihadists are rapidly establishing closer ties. A major player in that trend is Denis Cuspert. The 36-year-old who is described by some german newspapers as “Jihad Rapper”, has found his way from a secular career as rapper “Deso Dogg”  to radical Islam. Since his transformation he names himself Abu Maleeq. Last week, he changed his Kunya to Abu Talha al-Almani – at this point, the islamist from Berlin has so many different names that even experts are sometimes confused.

Abu Maleeq lately got attention with an Internet project to support “Muslim prisoners” on numerous websites, blogs and on Facebook. He supported, among others, Mohamed M. .  Letters, which were signed by M. were published by Cuspert, while the Viennese Islamist was in prison. The 26-year-old Austrian and the 36-year-old German stayed in contact after M. was released from prison.

Money

However, one question remains: How does M. financ his trip to and stay in Germany? Most recently, he made a visit to a Labour Office in Austria where he jokingly claimed  “pilot” as his career choice. In Vienna he at least didn’t have to pay rent because there he lived with his parents.
